Thank you so much, your words regarding Hollywood are very enlightening and inspiring.
Raising awareness is probably the easiest thing one can do towards to preventing tragedies and injustice.
We should all start from that.
I have come to believe that the best way to combat Hollywood is to start ignoring their movies entirerly. Right now that’s quite a hard deal to pull through, so I’m waiting for some decent folks to start releasing good content under CC terms, especially in the movies arena. Ultimately, I think that is what it will take.
Other than that, thank you for this enlightening article. It confirmed quite a few suspicions I had myself. It’s not the people per se that are rotten – it’s the entire system, and it really, really needs a good refactoring…
This article could have been of much greater service to the creator community were it rewritten for effect. Contextualizing the BG of the piracy issue, counterpointing with specific examples of suffering from piracy within (and without) the industry and providing a call to action would be helpful.
From the second paragraph to the next to the last in “The Prequel” it sounds like a personal rant/lament about the industry as a whole, the author’s place in it, and how terribly misunderstood she/it is.
This is tantamount to a predicating/premanufactured buffer of insularity around her entire thesis argument shouting without stating, “I know this is going to be taken wrong anyway by everybody even before I say it.”
You can’t put on a condom to knock up an issue and (I think) I’m on the author’s side.
This pretext bias and tone shrieks, “Nobody understands me!” What plaint. Pllllll.
This is not genuine basis for authentic advocacy. The author doesn’t even address the piracy issue until the last paragraph of the first half of her two posts on the topic.
The second part of the article, riddled with grammatical errors a grade schooler would catch, and the tangents run off on, completely leave me bewildered, wondering, why did this opportunity to get effective advocacy against piracy underway get bungled so badly?
I have no personal axe to grind, nor negative characterizations of the individual person authoring this like other comments clearly have, but piracy is a big issue to all intellectual property creators, small or large. Clear definition of the issue, its scope, scale, sources and resulting damage to culture and creators without regard to political dogs in the fight are the best ways to bring clarity, advanced advocacy in the public eye and clarify the wise choices to be made to bring illegal activity like this to an end.
Give it a shot next time, author, like you are committed. Because passion wanes and commitment sustains. Commitment will also provide you the clarity and objectivity to be persuasive in public forums.
